So the car had its MOT today, took it to a local garage who usually do all the little menial tasks that I can't be bothered with or when I've broken something. So when I showed up this morning and told him to take it easy as there's a surprise under the bonnet, he gave me a rather worrying look. When he opened the bonnet he gave me a different look, a kind of "are you serious" look π€£
Anyway, the car passed the MOT, yay! Although for the first time in its life, the dreaded corrosion made its mark on the advisory. I knew the chassis rails would need doing soon but I thought I might get at least another year until they were mentioned. However the sills were also mentioned. This annoyed me mainly as the sills were "allegedly" repaired along with the arches when the car was resprayed last year. I did wonder why he never sent me the pictures I requested of the damage on the sills. So I'm currently looking for someone around the Hertfordshire area that can do the chassis rails for me and have a look at the sills to see how bad they actually are. There's an mx5 specialist in Leighton Buzzard who are supposed to be rather good, they're booked up until mid 2023 so I suppose thats a good sign. A little bummed out by that, but never mind, I knew it was coming sooner or later.
I'll take the car out soon with the camera so maybe you can get a feel for how the car is driving now. I'll offer up passenger rides too at any meets π€£

Although maybe you don't want to go back to them. Yes please to a passenger ride

So we arrived at Buggs' yesterday morning and he asked if I wanted to go out in the 5. "Of course...as long as you don't go mad". He did, its very quick, instant speed....bit too much for me but he's done a great job.

So I thought I'd try and do a little video for you all to try and show how the car whizzes off now π not sure how well it comes across but hopefully you can get a bit of an idea, unfortunately I had a bit of traffic and not alot of petrol!! Very difficult to find a decent mounting point for the camera where you could see everything too but hey ho.

A few times throughout this year when I thought about just putting it back to stock and selling all the bits but very glad I persevered. The first start and the first run were very worrying, wondering if I've forgotten something and going to do some serious damage to the engine but, touch wood, it all seems great. Had a lot of help over the whole process, made a few new friends who are very knowledgeable and have given me so many ideas and pointers, couldn't have done it without them! But I'm glad it's over Mind you it's never over, I'm already looking at bits to upgrade! A couple of bits I've put in are either "budget" parts or parts just to get the car started and upgrade as I go. For instance I've got a mini breather filter on the cam cover above the exhaust manifold. The problem there is it drips a tiny amount of oil onto the manifold making the car smell of burning oil. That was put on literally just to get the car finished but I've already bought a catch can for the dripping oil that I need to install. Also the washer bag I put in for cost reasons is going to replaced with a washer bottle that goes behind the skuttle panel thanks to Mr and Mrs Gonzo, so that will look a lot neater under there eventually. So it's never truly finished

Thanks for sharing the video. It is difficult to convey the sense of speed but the supercharger whine is very evident.

Just a little one guys, not been able to do much with the weather and to be honest, not much more to do. But I've replaced that manky looking washer bag with a better looking DaveFab relocated washer bottle behind the firewall. Doesn't hold much fluid but as I try not to go out in nasty weather, I'm hoping I won't need it much. Very simple to do, they supply extra wiring for you to extend the harness and extra tubing to extend the washer line. All in all a very simple upgrade and I'm much happier βΊοΈ
