The fitted number plate lights are rather dim, so I decided to replace them with LED bulbs and, to be truthful, although "whiter" they didnt illuminate the plate very well (useful, you may think!)
I had a couple of LED strip lights, these, when illuminated, do not have LED "dots" but are evenly lit.
I fitted it under the boot lip so that when the boot was opened, it also lit up the boot. When closed, it shines on the number plate.
Fitting was straightforward. Where the light was to be fitted (double-sided sticky tape) there was a small hole and the wire threaded through into where the high-level brake light is fitted. I extended the wire down behind the rear trim where I found a plug that was live with the side-lights. It had female space connectors so I ended the wire with two spaces and soldered/heat shrunk the cable.
As usual, it's difficult to photograph LED's but hopefully you will see what I mean. You cannot look directly at the LED bar as it is that bright. £2.50 eBay for 2.
