Hi folks
I've completed a search and couldn't find anything on this subject here, so here goes nothing...
So...having recently purchased my 2012 NC tin top I want to ensure she is in good condition underneath and protect her from deterioration in the future, being already nine years old. So...today I set out to use my Karcher chassis cleaner on her which went well. I paid special attention to the suspension and linkages etc, so now she's looking much cleaner under there and nothing of any serious concern, as far as I can tell. But...I can still see surface oxidization and light rusting in those areas where it tends to develop. I'm considering whether to get myself some wheel ramps and get under there myself with a trusty wire brush followed by some rust neutriliser, followed by some waxoil. But I'm aware there are various enclosed box areas that I know little about and don't know where to find them. Not to mention I am in my 60's (yes really) and haven't got under a car for about the last 30 years!! I treated my ND in this way a few years back (my 'friendly mechanic' allowed me to use his ramp) but she was almost new at the time and still perfect under there although again, I didn't get into those box areas.
What are people's thoughts on this? Has anyone done it themselves or used a specialists to do the job? Having done a little 'googling' it seems there were a couple of companies, Dandy Cars and Chassis Clean to name two, but as far as I can tell, both companies have sadly stopped trading. I am based in North East Kent.
I've also got her booked in to my local friendly mechanic for a thorough health-check in a couple of weeks too and in any case, I will get him to give his appraisal of the chassis areas. I want to ensure she is ship shape and Bristol fashion!! She should be OK since she had a Mazda full service in June but, as Roadie will confirm, when it comes to my cars, I'm ever so slightly OCD!!
Many thanks
Barry
