Morning guys and gals, a milestone was hit yesterday π
So the next job on the list was fitting the new tensioner plate that houses the pulleys for the supercharger belt and the new tensioner for the belt. On this it was just a case of loosening the power steering belt, removing 3 bolts from behind the power steering pulley and replacing the new tensioner. I reeeeeeeally wish I decided to do this before setting the radiator in its new position as there wasn't much room to get my arms and the tools between the radiator and the engine, but hey hoh, I persevered.
New tensioner plate
Once that was on, I had a couple days to relax away from the car whilst I waited for a new belt to arrive along with all the pipe work for the intercooler, but once the new belt arrived I had to get it on ASAP to make sure it fit before going any further
It was a very tight squeeze getting it on there but it managed to fit. I've tightened it as much as I thought I should, looked OK to me, just got to see how it goes. Probably will need adjusting.
I had a bit of housekeeping to do before I could attempt a start up, tightening clips here and there and making sure things are where they need to be, refilling the radiator and trimming the top radiator hose. As I have now moved the radiator back this was inevitably too long and needed cutting.
Thought I'd spend a while doing all that and checking so after sorting the belt out I thought I'd do a quick mock up to see what the engine bay will actually look like
Ooooooh I'm very excited π
So, onto yesterday. I spent some time making sure everything was in the right place, tightened down and the radiator was topped back up with coolant. I wanted to run the car with the supercharger connected but none of the pipe work basically to check the alignment of the belt. Definitely expecting it to spin the belt off as chances of this being aligned first time are miniscule!
I was expecting to also have problems with the battery, I'm sure my battery has been a bit of an issue for a while now but as the car has been unused for about 3 months and not started for around 2 of them I didn't hold out much hope for it.
With the help of a lad at work who has some super dooper jump pack, we went to work. Turned the ignition and....nothing. Absolutely no lights whatsoever. OK, kind of expected some sort of lighting but no matter. We connected his jump pack and.....nothing, it didn't even attempt to light anything up.
So he's got some overdrive, connect it wrong and you'll blow up, can easily start a tank function on it. Basically throws all the juice it's got straight into the battery and should fire anything up instantly!
It didn't π
We thought to leave it hooked up for a while on that setting so we pottered about a bit and went back half hour later. Flicked the ignition on, we got some lights for a second and they went straight back out. Left for a little while longer and this time the dash lights stayed on but the stereo and my AFR sensor kept flicking on and off. Left for another 10 mins and I thought sod it I'm trying it. So a couple of times trying to crank it with no luck, it eventually burst into life! A bit of coughing and spluttering to begin with but IT LIVES!!!!
Please excuse the squealing, the belt clearly isn't tight enough so causing alot of belt slip, once it warmed up it was only slipping on acceleration.
Also excuse my squealing, I was so excited π (also what's the best way of uploading a video, can only seem to find putting it on YouTube and then copying the link to here)
After what feels like forever, to have it running is a major milestone, I'm so bloody happy! Obviously it's not running properly supercharged yet, it all needs mapping once I have all the pipework in place, thats where the real fun begins π
After 10 minutes or so I switched the car off, checked the belt and there is clearly an alignment issue. Happy that it's not bad enough to throw the belt, but it's enough to have moved it and needs attention
So that's the next job, figure out how to get that all properly lined up, fit a new battery as mine is deader than dead, get all the pipework on and this baby should be ready for tuning π
